Sun 27 Sep - Day 13: Granon to Villambistia 22km

244km walked, 542km left to walk.

Late start at 8am as I wandered off with my walking buddies Ben (Australian), Aaron (English), Marg (Spanish), Win (Kiwi) and Sophie (German).

Soon we left La Rioja and entered the next province Castilla y Leon.
The landscape was no longer dominated by vineyards. Instead, it was general farming and sunflowers. Dead sunflowers.
We passed through several ghost towns and villages. Nobody around, crumbling buildings or incomplete constructions. You half expected a gunslinger riding in on a horse looking grimly over the place. It all seemed very sad and you wondered what people did and lived of in these places.

The building below was colorful and beautiful though.
Suddenly I saw something moving on the path. A snake. A black snake.
This black snake was tiny tiny and nothing like its Australian counterpart. Although the snake was prepared to give you a bite if you got close enough. We tested.

Around 2pm we arrived in Villambistia and to a lovely neat and clean hostel.

Soon though the illusion of peace and tranquility was shattered. A female pilgrim who arrived after us found a bed bug on her bed. A bed that none of us had touched.

The anti bed bug machine kicked in. The proprietor arrived spraying the particular bed and ordered us all outside to check our gear. Particularly checking the sleeping bags. And leaving the sleeping bags out there in the sun.

Soon the outside terrace looked like this.
Yep, pilgrim clothing and backpacks everywhere.
None of us found anything except Aaron who found something small black perhaps moving pinsized something.

Could have been a bed bug. Or something else.

Oh well, time will tell whether any of us are carrying anything. Or get bitten by anything.

Dinner was a fun affair in the Internet room. Lots of laughs. Silly jokes. Stupid comments. Now, there is some Vino Tinto that needs to be drunk so we better leave it there.
